Responsibilities of Board Members
As fiduciaries, volunteer officers of a chartered Red Cross unit have the
following responsibilities:
- To act in their official capacities only in the best interests of the
American Red Cross. - To exercise the care, prudence, skill and diligence that a reasonable
person acting in a similar position would exercise in handling his or her
personal affairs and assets. - To supervise with reasonable care to the extent that authority has been
delegated. - To adhere to the Code of Conduct, which requires not seeking or
accepting any financial advantage or gain (other than of nominal
value) as a result of the Red Cross affiliation. - To fully and fairly disclose any transactions with an outside entity that
may affect the performance of their Red Cross responsibilities.
All actions of a volunteer official are to be in accordance with the policies and
procedures prescribed by the American Red Cross and by local, state, and
federal law.
